SUBJECT: NAVIGATION-POSITION COMPUTING-FUTURE AIR NAVIGATION SYSTEM(FANS)1 INSTALLATION(GENERAL ELECTRIC ENGINES)
BACKGROUND
Change instructions and a kit of parts were prepared to let the operator install a fully operational Future Air Navigation System (FANS) 1 for 747-400 General Electric engine-powered airplanes.
The change instructions and the kit of parts given in this service bulletin agree with the operator's request to install FANS 1 on the applicable airplane.
ACTION (MC3461MK4145)
In the main equipment center, do these changes:
- Do wire changes to the Modularized Avionics Warning Electronics Assembly (MAWEA) card file
- Do wire changes to the E2-1, E2-3, and E2-5
shelves.
- Install new wires between the E2-5 shelf and the MAWEA card file.
After the above changes are completed, do a FMC functional test, a MAWEA test, a SATCOM test, and an ACARS wiring test.
